China News Service (Xinjiang), June 5 (Zhang Jiawei) — "Over the past three years, we have saved 19.38 million tons of fresh water—an amount exceeding the total volume of Hangzhou’s West Lake." On World Environment Day (June 5), Qin Jun, General Manager of PetroChina Dushanzi Petrochemical Company ("Dushanzi Petrochemical"), released a set of figures regarding the company's water conservation efforts.
Located in the Gobi Desert of northern Xinjiang, Dushanzi Petrochemical operates in an area where water resources are scarce. According to Qin Jun, the company invested nearly 200 million yuan in wastewater reduction and reuse projects. By employing a three-stage purification process—combining high-efficiency sedimentation, ion exchange, and dual-membrane technology—the company established a fully enclosed, end-to-end wastewater treatment and reuse system.
Alongside water conservation, the results of pollution control are clearly visible. Qin Jun noted, "We installed an ecological observation pond featuring koi carp at the wastewater treatment terminal to demonstrate the effectiveness of our pollution control efforts in a vivid, tangible way."
Qin Jun reported that, compared to the end of the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the company has reduced Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) emissions by 35.55%, thereby exceeding its "14th Five-Year Plan" reduction targets. The wastewater reuse rate has risen significantly; reclaimed water is widely utilized for landscape irrigation, ecological replenishment, and industrial production, achieving a model of multi-purpose and cascaded water utilization.
